This is an exciting opportunity within a new type of design education at New Zealand’s largest and best resourced University. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about experimenting with technologies relating to digital design and gaming, including AR/VR, projection mapping, motion capture, and a range of electronics.
As a Digital Design Technician, you will be part of a group of Technicians in the faculty of Creative Arts and Industries, Design Programme, within a hybrid technologies lab to assist researchers and students to produce a wide variety of projects.
This is an entirely new programme offering a range of prototyping and development environments from traditional fabrication machinery to digital technologies and sensor environments, including; high-end gaming PC’s, VR and AR headsets, a motion capture rig, maker space, gaming consoles, and more! Our ideal candidate will be comfortable learning new tools and techniques quickly and efficiently (including related software) and have the keenness and confidence to share their knowledge with individuals and groups in the Design Programme community of students, researchers and industry partners.

Skills and Experience
Our ideal candidate will bring the following:
- Experience with 3D modelling and animation software is highly desired e.g. Blender, 3DS Max, or Maya, as you will be helping staff and students fix digital models in software, rigging and animating digital models (including use of mocap data), rendering, and preparing assets for game engines.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current and relevant technologies and techniques to ensure the best possible solutions are made available to staff and students.
- Health and safety is an essential part of the role, so a proactive attitude towards ensuring a safe environment is vital.
