- Senior Communications Advisor - full-time

- Be part of a culture where people are at the heart of what we do

Our Purpose: Why we do it

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you're part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.

The Team: What we do

While health is our business, together Canterbury DHB and West Coast DHB employ well over 11,000 people.

Because we cover everything from a small rural health clinic on the West Coast to the South Island's largest tertiary hospital you'll get to work on a wide range of projects from technology to change management, staff engagement to health education.

In health communications you will never be bored. No two days are the same; Canterbury and West Coast DHBs are undergoing a period of transformation, and where there's change there's a high demand for communication. You will be called on to work on a wide range of challenging projects, and an important aspect of your role will be to help keep our staff informed about what's happening in the health system - telling our stories, to our people.

The Role: Where you fit in

You will work with the Canterbury and West Coast DHB's award winning Communications team and specifically you will be working closely with the team responsible for the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme - New Zealand's biggest ever mass vaccination campaign.

The Senior Communications Advisor role covers community engagement, strategic and project communications, public health campaigns, presentations, branding, internal and external communications. You need to be a strong writer able to juggle and prioritise emerging issues. Project and event management and crisis management experience would be a bonus. You will do some work with media, and the occasional weekend on-call (but we have a full-time Senior Media Advisor who handles most of our media work). You will do work for both DHBs and occasional travel may be involved.

This role will see you join a strong team committed to improving the way DHBs communicate and engage with their various stakeholders. We're looking for a skilled practitioner who will bring specialist skills to the team and is up for a challenge. You will be replacing a highly valued and much-loved comms team member who is returning home to Australia.

Our Culture: What matters to us

Ko ngā tāngata, te mātua mahi

Putting people at the heart of all we do

Health is ultimately all about people. What's important around here is the way we care for and respect others, the responsibility taken for delivering outcomes, and going about our work with integrity.

Belonging Here: Becoming part of our story

Being part of the Canterbury District Health Board, you will enjoy a fantastic benefits scheme and ongoing focus on your career development.

The Canterbury DHB believes that diversity and inclusion is key to ensure we deliver the best care for our diverse population. The Canterbury DHB is an inclusive and equal opportunity employer that welcomes and respects everyone.
