Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)
We are looking for a suitably qualified General Paediatrician to join the Women, Child and Youth Health Service at Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH). This position, working 32 hours a week (plus on call), is based at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim - located at the top of the South Island. The on-call after hours roster is shared equally on a 1:3 rota weekdays, and 1:4 weekends.
Working at Wairau Hospital you will join a dynamic and dedicated team of experienced General Paediatricians providing general paediatric and specialist care for a population of about 49,000; including neonatal care for > 34 weeks gestation, general, ambulatory, developmental and community paediatrics. The child health team works closely with the maternity team who manage 550 deliveries per annum.
We have close links with the community based Early Years Child Development Service and our paediatric outreach service visits children in their homes. Our busy paediatric outpatient department (with 3 clinic rooms) sits adjacent to our modern in-patient facilities. For very sick and exceedingly specialised and complex children, we have excellent ties to tertiary units in Wellington (NICU), Auckland and Christchurch.
Weekly teleconferences with the paediatric team at our sister hospital in Nelson (district-wide team of 9 SMO's), strengthens collaboration across the district for peer review and CPD. Regular teleconferences are also held with tertiary centers as and when required. Outreach visiting clinics are established for Paediatric surgery, Cardiology and Gastroenterology. Neuro-behavioral services are shared with the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

You will first and foremost be a generalist with the skills and energy to contribute to further developing the service to children and families. You will use innovative and creative approaches to
making a difference, and will ideally have experience (or a strong interest in developing expertise) in areas that would complement the current team and the wider district-wide service.
Qualifications required upon taking up the position:
- FRACP or equivalent
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Certified Neonatal Life Support training is desirable and APLS (essential)
- Current Annual Practicing Certificate (or eligible to obtain).
- Interest in diabetes

- Community Paediatric skills to support population health.
Our success is as a whole. Collegiality and collaboration across all disciplines are key to our delivery of a successful service to our patients and our community.
