Service: Intensive Recovery Service

Contract: Permanent, part time 0.6 FTE

Salary: $114,025-$121,739 depending on experience

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Health Acute Care Mental Support (MHACS) Specialty Education Nurse roles are part of a wider team within Mental Health, Addiction & Intellectual Disability Services (MHAIDS) Intensive Recovery Sector across Hutt Valley and Wellington Hospital Emergency Departments.







The main purpose of these roles is to ensure people presenting with a mental health crisis are provided high quality, equitable, and whānau centered care. Supporting the Emergency Departments to determine the triage level and navigate treatment options and referral pathways.

This role is based within the Wellington Emergency Department and you will have close connections across Hutt and Wairarapa Emergency Department clinicians, other teams within MHAIDS and external providers. The ideal person for this role will be an expert nurse in mental health and addictions. They will be experienced in supporting and developing the clinical, cultural and professional skills to both clinical and non-clinical health workers.

The role will be ideally suited to a nurse who has an interest in the interface between physical and mental health and a particular interest in emergency care.

The role works within the Hutt Valley Emergency Department alongside the Emergency Department Team and reports to both the Emergency Department Manager and Operations Managers within the Intensive Recovery Sector MHAIDS.

Whilst the role is autonomous you will have regular support and involvement from the colleagues based within the roles in Wellington and Wairarapa Emergency departments and close links to the crisis resolution service and operations centre as well as community mental health teams and inpatient services.

Moū - About you

To be successful in this role you will have confidence mentoring other health professionals and other key staff to develop skills in mental health and addictions triage, assessment and processes.

An ability to develop, design and provide formal educational tools and training to other health professionals.

Develop and implement mental health and addictions clinically specific pathways and protocols.







Proactively and effectively manage internal and external relationships to effectively link with other services to support optimal outcomes for people and there whānau.

An ability to develop strong networks across MHAIDS, the Emergency Department and wider hospital services including allied health, Security Orderlies and Health Care Assistants, with the goal of becoming an integral part of ED.

An ability to use sound judgement, discretion and integrity.

Role model to all staff nursing practice and standards, reflecting high quality, equitable and compassion service provision.

Work effectively with other mental health teams and providers to support access to the right care that is timely and effective.

As well as confidence in both communication, technology and written skills.

- Post registration in Mental Health
- Registered with New Zealand Nursing Council
- Meet police vetting requirements
- Have a current practising certificate
- Full NZ driving license
- A commitment to team work with an ability to participate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to provide a high standard of care to our clients
- A good sense of humour
