At He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens, we have over 108 kindergartens across the regions we serve, bringing learning, connection, and fun to families across Whanganui, Central Plateau, Horowhenua, Kapiti, Porirua, Greater Wellington, Upper Hutt, Wairarapa and South Otago. We also provide a home-based service - Etu Ao in Porirua and Levin.
Our vision for He Whānau Manaaki o Tararua is derived from our belief in the importance of quality early childhood education for the children themselves, their whānau, their community and for Aotearoa New Zealand. Therefore, we seek to be a leader in the provision of high-quality early childhood education, and by demonstrating what can be achieved, be seen as advocates for children and whānau and help to improve quality early childhood education throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
Out of this vision comes Ngā Uara – Our Values:
- Nurturing the mana of the child
- Kounga – Quality
- Mahi Tahi – Partnership
- Pono – Integrity
More than 6,000 children now attend one of Whānau Manaaki’s 108 kindergartens and around 150 children are enrolled with our Pasifika-focused Etu Ao homebased service.
Community Description
The children who attend Berhampore Kindergarten are drawn from a long-established, southern suburb of Wellington. They reflect a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our kindergarten is handy to the town belt, parks, schools and a shopping centre.
Central Wellington is less than 5 kilometres away and a main bus route is within easy walking distance of the kindergarten.
We celebrate the diversity of children and families/whānau who attend Berhampore Kindergarten and our teaching team is committed to ensuring equitable outcomes for all. We are strongly committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where all tamariki and whānau are welcome and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
We have a genuine commitment to growing our Te Tiriti-based practice and have strong connections with our local community, including our local primary school.
We have a rich, well-resourced learning environment, and our large outdoor area provides challenge and opportunities for both active and quiet experiences.
We are licensed for 40 children, who attend 6 hours per day.
You will join our team of 4 other teachers.
This role is fulltime worked 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.00am-4.30pm.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced ECE kaiako who will:
- work responsively and inclusively in our diverse community, especially supporting children with additional learning needs, or who have English as an additional language.
- communicate and contribute collaboratively to a positive team culture by being flexible and take on responsibilities of an experienced teacher, including supporting the team when the Head Teacher is away
- confidently contribute to effective assessment practice, implementation and evaluation of our curriculum.
- actively contribute to strengthening and sustaining the kindergarten’s bicultural programme/practice and demonstrate a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- effectively work with parents as partners in their children’s education.
If you would like to visit the Kindergarten to see if the environment would be a good fit for you, please contact Senior Teacher Lynette Wray on 029 5963883.
