Rarangi Utu a-Matauranga - Education Payroll Limited (EPL) is a Crown entity that delivers pay to schools and kura on behalf of the Ministry of Education. With around 200 employees, we deliver one of the largest and most complex payrolls in Australasia.
The combination of great people and cutting-edge technology enables us to pay around 100,000 teachers and support staff across around 2,500 schools accurately and on time every fortnight. That's approximately $283 million a fortnight and $7.4 billion per annum.
Reporting into the Principal Performance Engineer, the Senior Test Engineer plays a crucial role in leading, implementing,
and monitoring test automation solutions. They will provide mentoring and oversee the work of other Test Analysts and Engineers, providing leadership in all aspects of the Technical Testing Centre of Excellence at Education Payroll.
The Senior Test Engineer will provide their expertise across EPL and will support embedding Agile practice into Education Payroll.
If successful, you'll be appointed between $88,000 and $132,000. Depending on experience and capability, we expect to appoint around 100% of the band which is $110,000.
Because of the highly collaborative nature of our work, Education Payroll is primarily an office-based workplace. Our office is in central Wellington, close to the train station for an easy commute. We do offer flexible working arrangements after our people have completed an initial training period.
Key accountabilities:
Responsible for building frameworks and strategies within the Test Automation space.
Provide leadership, expertise, and advice to the Technical Testing team,
across the Software Engineering group and to stakeholders as required.
Provide technical analysis, mentoring, and advice to support testing and development teams in relation to test automation development and execution.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software testing practice, as well as take a hands-on approach to implementing that initiative.
To be successful in this role you will need to have:
Test frameworks experience on Cypress, Playwright, Java Rest-Assured, REST API testing, Cucumber, and Specification by Example or Acceptance Driven Testing.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in relevant technology fields.
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Test Engineer.
Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and customers.
Payroll experience highly desirable.
Knowledge or experience working within the Scaled Agile Framework.
