Special Olympics New Zealand (SONZ) provides sports opportunities for people with an intellectual disability throughout Aotearoa, and utilises sport as a vehicle to promote a more inclusive society where people with an intellectual disability are empowered, visible and valued.
We are seeking a motivated and organised Regional Sports Co-ordinator (RSC) who will be responsible for the delivery, support and promotion of Special Olympics activity across the North Shore and Northland region.
You will be SONZ's key point of contact and support for volunteer-led Special Olympics clubs within this region, proactively supporting them to operate effectively and deliver quality opportunities for participants.
The SONZ School Programme involves you developing relationships with secondary schools, planning and delivering sport/active recreation opportunities to classes of students with an intellectual disability, delivering school sports events, and promoting the pathway of school students into Special Olympics clubs.
We are seeking applications from individuals with the following attributes:
- Previous experience working with and understanding the challenges for volunteers and clubs.
- An understanding of sport and the ability to deliver and adapt sporting opportunities.
- Excellent communication, administration, and organisation skills.
- Strong relationship building and relationship management skills.
- Excellent self and time management skills; a self-starter and ability to work on your own, within a national team.
- General knowledge of the intellectual disability sector, or a willingness to learn more about intellectual disability. Some knowledge of the school sector is helpful.
We are open to the successful applicant being based in either the North Shore or Whangārei - travel across the whole region is a requirement of the role.
Notes
- The nature of the sports industry and our work with volunteers requires availability for some evening and weekend work.
- A full and clean driver license is essential. A work vehicle is provided for work-related travel.
- A police vetting process is required to be undertaken on appointment and a three-yearly basis thereafter.
- This role supports and delivers Special Olympics activity across Auckland (North Shore) and Northland. Availability for travel to facilitate this activity is required.
