Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking expressions of interest for Professional Teaching Fellow opportunities within the Creative Arts and Industries (CAI) Faculty at the University of Auckland. These will be part-time, fixed term teaching positions on undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme.

We have a range of opportunities in Semester 1 (March-June) and Semester 2 (July-Oct) 2025 across our “Creative Technologies” and “Contemporary Practices” courses.

- Creative Technologies courses develop practical and critical capacities in a wide range of analogue and digital media including: nga toi taketake (Māori material practices), printed matter, time-based media, photography, painting, sculpture and performance art.
These courses are timetabled as one 3 hour class per week, typically in the mornings, 9-12noon.

- Contemporary Practices courses develop critical and practical capacities in a range of areas of thematic enquiry: indigeneity and culture; images, objects and materiality; embodiment, identity and agency; systems, ecologies and environments; and technology and material futures.
These courses are timetabled as two 3 hour classes per week, typically in the afternoons, 1-4pm.

These positions may be as course lead, or as a second staff member on a course.
All courses are taught on campus at the city campus.

For more detailed information, please refer to the Position Description.

Me pēhea te tuku tono | How to apply

Expressions of interest should provide an indication of media areas and/or thematic enquiry areas applicants are interested in teaching or have experience teaching. Please also indicate semester availability (semester 1, semester 2 or both).

Please include your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience/interest in Fine Arts teaching. All expressions of interest must be submitted by 24th February 2025.

Please note this a call for ‘Expressions of Interest’ rather than a position application as such, so you will not hear back from us.
We refer to our EOI lists once we are in a position to staff individual courses, following student enrolment, and will make contact with individuals at that point as selected.

Please reach out to Tara Winters, via *********@auckland.ac.nz, for a confidential conversation.
